This unique feature of the InTime Media product enables a Screen2 app to turn the handset into an extension of the TV where real-time play-along is required, such as in sports event gambling or quiz shows.

Two techniques are used, depending on the format and the way the programme is viewed.

One technique, used with all formats, uses the device’s internet connection to send and receive sync’ing data to the Screen2Sync server.

The other uses patented technology to enable the microphone on the device to ‘hear’ what is being broadcast and when a particular audio sequence is identified, the app is pre-programmed to respond according to what is being broadcast.

This is particularly relevant and effective on pre-recorded quiz programmes where millisecond perfect sync’ing is required to display quiz questions and answers on the device. The technique removes the problem of different broadcast technologies having different latencies, and is effective with a wide range of audio volumes and distances between the handset and the TV.

The Screen2 audio sync technique can also be used effectively on TV ads, enabling the advertiser to ‘reach’ the viewer’s device and deliver compelling content immediately to the viewer.
